Dawn French: Is Menopause Something to Laugh About?
Comedian Dawn French has spoken about the importance of remaining resilient in the face of challenging menopause symptoms. "You can't pretend it's not happening, accept it and if you need help, go get it" she said.
If there is one thing that ageing teaches us, it’s to not suffer in silence. If something doesn’t feel right, we need to raise our hands and ask for help. For some women this can be a difficult decision as we are so conditioned to be the resilient ones, the nurturers who put everyone else’s needs before our own.
This can be to our own detriment because when we continue to ignore our own needs, we may suddenly wake up one day with more serious health conditions which could have been prevented had we taken notice sooner.
It’s probably lucky women were blessed with a sense of humour and can laugh about all the crazy things that happen during menopause, otherwise we would all be locked up in the looney bin!
HOW YOUR STORY CAN HELP OTHERS!
Menopause is slowly coming out of the closet and more women are sharing their stories in the hope of helping other women understand that help is available, and that menopause can be one of the most liberating times in a woman’s life.
Menopause does mark a turning point in a woman’s life, menstruation is over, and we can no longer bear children, our bodies soften, and our smile lines etch a little deeper. Some of us can enjoy the pleasures of being a grandmother, while others take more time indulging in the pursuits they love like travelling, gardening, reading, and spending time with family and friends.
The last thing any woman wants during these years is to be burdened with the symptoms of menopause. Of course, there will be a transition phase and some women will have a harder time than others. This is where the sisterhood comes in and the wonderful ability women have to support each other when life isn’t going to plan.
Hot flushes, night sweats, mood swings and weight gain are the most common symptoms women going through menopause experience. And it’s good to know that there are natural solutions for this natural phase of life. We must be realistic with our expectations of miracle solutions as menopause affects the whole body, so the treatment must be holistic too.
Our metabolism is not the same as it was when we were 20, so we can’t expect to have the figure of a super model, but we can expect to feel energised and vital with good cognitive function. This is not out of our reach, but it does require some attention and the willingness to make new habits when old habits are no longer serving us.
IS IT TIME YOU ASKED FOR HELP?
The most important lesson that women everywhere have in common is that sharing their stories helps other women not feel alone and that the burden is not theirs to carry alone. Lighten your load ladies, raise your hand, and ask for help. The sooner you do, the sooner you can release the weight of the world and start living your best life, because the best of you is still to come.
There is some comfort in knowing that women all around the world are experiencing the same thing, and even celebrities are not exempt from the natural transitions of ageing and menopause.
Nature's Help has been created by women for women, so you never have to feel alone. We have created natural solutions for a natural process, and we are with you every step of the way!
